CAFFSA Minimum Workforce Standards Communique

This document outlines a number of minimum workforce standards endorsed by Child and Family Focus SA (CAFFSA) to ensure quality outcomes for children and young people. Without appropriately funded clinical governance, staffing ratios and award rates, the competencies outlined in core government documentation are rendered tokenistic and unlikely to be embedded into daily practice.

Workforce turnover and retention has been a longstanding issue in child protection, particularly the statutory context. High proportions of staff working in the tertiary/statutory context leave these positions within the first few years. Many staff transition to find employment in related non-statutory child protection jobs in the secondary and primary tier services.
Child and Family Focus SA (CAFFSA) amplifies the voices of children, young people, and families involved in the family support and child protection sectors. We support and represent the not-for-profit organisations dedicated to protecting and nurturing children, young people, families and caregivers in our community.
