There has been recent media coverage regarding the proposed Social Workers Registration Scheme in South Australia and the South Australian Government’s decision that it will not proceed with the Scheme. While a registration scheme for social work graduates would have been supported, the breadth of the scope of practice moved well beyond social work graduates to those who had studied other degrees or had other qualifications. The Scheme as proposed would have resulted in significant and complex retention and recruitment concerns across a range of important programs already struggling to fill roles that work with vulnerable kids and families, so while the diversity of views across the broader sector is acknowledged, Child and Family Focus SA believes the government have made the right decision.
