Family Matters SA – Family Day
May 25 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
The theme for the Family Matters Week of Action in 2019 is ‘Because of them, we must.’ The theme has dual meanings; it highlights the obligations that parents and Elders have towards their children, but also the crucial role of grandparents and Elders in caring for and providing safe environments for children and families.
The Family Matters Working Group in South Australia will be hosting a Week of Action event on Saturday 25th of May. A family day will be hosted in Light Square which will provide an opportunity to bring families and children together from a range of Aboriginal communities in metropolitan South Australia, and to pay our respects to Elders and grandparents for their caring and nurturing role.
We also see this as a great opportunity to do some active community outreach and to talk with families directly about the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle, what it means, and how we are working together to embed the principles deeply in to policy and practice.
The CREATE Foundation will be joining the Family Matters Working Group on the day along with some of the children and families that they support. Other cultural events are still being organised.
Lunch will be provided free of charge, and will be a barbecue sausage-sizzle thanks to the Lions Club of Adelaide.
